Nathan, I used to dive with one of those U.S. Divers masks that you talk about - I liked the purge valve in the schnoz. I then moved up to a scubapro (once again with the purge valve), before settling on the full face AGA mask. The AGA is awesome. It is postitively pressured (so you can literally reach in and scratch your eye with your finger, and no water will enter the mask), and can be fitted with Comm gear. I used mine extensively with OTS communications equipment, which allowed me to jabber all day long underwater. I have now moved up to the ultimate - a Widolph mask made by Tracy Robinette for me, Farb and McKenney to use with our rebreathers. I have NO experience on it yet, but it looks pretty cool. Ask Rod about his dives with it, or better yet, call Tracy himself. It is equipped with a bypass valve for the closed circuit rebreather that leads directly to a open circuit second stage on the front of the mask. In this way, if you have a problem with the rebreather, you are a flip of a switch away from having open circuit bailout, without losing your FFM underwater. It also accepts the comm gear from OTS. It looks nuclear, and makes women want me really bad, so I had to have it... I suspect it'll be the last mask I ever need, or at least until Rod talks me into buying something else... Kevin HeyyDude.
