On the subject of dual reels; here's what I believe is the
simplest solution, and what I carry.

	A safety sausage type DRSMB.
12m of crab fishing line - about 300g of lead on the end,
attached to the SMB. Roll the SMB up, and wrap the line around it (not
around the weight). Mine's home made, so is slim enough to tuck under my
knife straps (upper thigh, not BC). Or a stab pocket if it's a
commercial one.
	A reel.

Dive, use the reel as a wreck line, search line, penetration,
whatever. Two reels is clumsy, and assuming that you'll use the main
reel to surface with is wasteful; in emergency planning assume that the
shit has really hit the fan (as it can inside wrecks as no-where else).
You're one handed, restricted, blind, etc etc etc. loop the line off
tight and cut it. Quickest, easiest; or if laid right, you can still get
out, whatever.

Once clear, put the reel away. Ascend (you can all control your
buoyancy, right?) to the first stops, and deploy. Now I carry 12m
because not being a hard-arse I do stops at 9m deepest. Well,
occasionally 12, and never more than a minute or two at 15, but that's
fudging it anyway.

You don't hang, on the buoy, etc. You float underneath it.

To deply, hold the buoy in front of you and let the line
unreel down. Any tangles occur in front of you, and you can clear them.
Add a squirt of air and let the line run up; don't tie it off.

I don't dive really deep, and I've been 'lucky' and rarely lost
the line, but I've done this from 40m. I know it's been done from 60+ in
low vis.

OBTW, if the reel jams; tie the line off, leave. Bring the reel
out to investigate.

My ha'porth for clutter free macrame.

	Jason
