All of you guys who are arguing this rebreather crap need to know a couple of things. Fisrt, the only guys who actually use fully closed rebreathers (and have them) are Rod Farb )15.5) and Rich Pyle (Cis MK4). For what those two do (photography, ichtyologist), they are the machine of choice. Rich has an experimental unit, Farb has a commercial version of the Navy's machine. Anything else is conjecture. Of the other machines available, only the semiclosed of the type Kellan designed are in use by people like Oliver Isler (record cave penetration) for anything overhead. The rest we all know the problems with and the risks of. If you have the balls, get a CIS or a 15.5, and quit bullshitting, or get a semiclosed if you are planning a long range cave pentration, like the Odyessy. Otherwise, ask Farb, Pyle , or Isler for the facts, since they actively use these machines. I personally will likely get one like Farbs, since two of my dive buddies can show me how to keep in it shape, and I will likely get one of Kellams to go long with if and when I can get no further on open curcuit. Since that is so far not even remotely in play, I will jsut keep playing in open water with rebreathers until something changes. I would really just like one for diving the Bahamas open water for the convenience. - G
