I once snatched the primary regulator out of my buddy's mouth.  I made 
sure he saw what I was about to do.  Problem was, I had a lung-full of 
quinaldine (a fish anaesthetic), and if I hadn't taken a fresh breath 
mighty quick (much quicker than the average stressed person can hold a 
breath), I'd have been toast.  That was one of two times I needed a 
buddy.  But, since the reason I had a lung-full of quinaldine was 
ultimately his fault (I was catching fish for him), the use of a buddy in 
that case is sort of cancelled out.
