I'm curious... > >Andy Cohen > Andy: according to my TDI standards book (it is TDI Canada though), this course does not require any of this stuff...all the standards call for is a BC that suits the conditions in which the dives are going to be conducted. That's all. They do call for a back-up of some sort for the bottom timer/depth gauge and so state that computers may be used (which is kind of silly since it's gonna be beeping like a son of a bitch after the first dive)...and it's from that requirement that George and I started to chat. As for the particular gear, that's up to you and the instructor. You come up with a good reason why you do or do not agree with carrying a pickaxe, sextant and pneumatic chisel and they may listen...christ, they might even learn something....Oh, about the back-up mask, I think that's been covered already. Just for the record...the course that started this whole tread going was TDI's extended range or technical diver course...which in my opinion is a wholly strange endeavor...the rest of the scuba program makes sense to me but this one sort of hangs out there in the breeze... Take care mate
