Dear George: I had a look on CompuServe Scuba Forum for some strokery as you suggested. The discussions/arguments on argon for suit inflation were interesting. Like one of those guys that was sniping at you, I didn't see what you were especially offended by, however, I didn't have to look far to find something. What did you think about all of the advice given to help individuals O2 clean their own cylinders and valves? It reminds me of conversations regarding O2 cleaning that I had heard back in 1989-1990: Q: How do I O2 clean a tank and valve? A: Take it apart, clean all of the contaminates out, reassemble with viton o-rings and oxygen compatible grease. Q: Where can I find viton o-rings and oxygen grease? A: I don't know but if you can't find the o-rings, just clean the old ones real good. If you can't find the grease, just put everything together dry. Q: What do you use to clean the parts? A: Select from one of the following: Freon 113 (get a friend that works in electronics or defense industries to steal it for you) 1,1,1 Trichloroethane (get it at the paint store) Trichloroethylene 409, Fantastik, Simple Green Real Hot Water Dawn Paint Thinner (I shit you not) This, or course, is not what they were saying on CompuServe, but I was reminded of the days when similar conversations took place. I advised the individual who posted the original question to utilize the services of a technical dive shop. We (manufacturers and dive stores) have been trying to get this work done only at certified facilities for safety oriented, practical, and business reasons. Happy New Year, C.
