Personally, I welcome a limited amount of "advertising" if it truly informs me of some NEW development that is likely to be of interest to the readers of some particular list. I do want to be informed that there is a new certification agency for mixed gas diving. I also welcome the report that **** has announced a consumer version of a rebreather, or that Nitrox mix is now available in (popular remote location). What I do not want to hear is that (this agency) is "better than" (that agency) or blatant repetition of a particular product or service. Nor do I need to hear all the details about the shop and staff. There is a fine line between news and advertising. Let's encourage the former and flame the latter only when it is persistent or flagrant. IMHO, the appropriate response is personal e-mail to the author indicating that you feel that a particular posting has stepped over the line.
