It sounds as though you misunderstood what he was telling you or else he
didn't know what he was talking about. The MK16 certainly can be
"heliox-based" but that has to do only with what gases you put in the
diluent tank. You can put in air, trimix, heliox, etc. There is not
usually a mask associated with the unit unless it was fitted with a Aga
or Widolf but neither of these has a red-green indicator to tell you when
the scubbber is bad. To my knowledge there is not currently a reliable
CO2 detector. The red green lights you are refering to are the lights on
the primary guage that tell you grossly what the unit is doing in terms
of the pO2 setpoint. Alarm means that you have to look at the secondary
guage to see what the problem is. You can increase the scrubber time
immensely by changing to a finer mesh product but you don't want to go so
small that you have problems passing gas through it. There are no
rebreathers that automatically change scrubber for you. The MK15 scrubber
section was enlarged to produce the MK155 and MK16 units which resulted
in greater dive time. There is much more and if you want to know contact
me privately. Just remember, I may have to kill you if I tell you
everything. Rod
