I currently have a Dive Rite on my Alu 100's (a little bigger than 8")
though the crosspipe does show a couple of threads, certainly not enough to
cause a safety problem. (I just looked, one and one half thread past the
nut.) Your friend needs to pull preventative maintenance on his manifold. I
assume you mean that the handwheel became stuck; not frozen by ice....
