Lastnight around 5:45pm someone tried to fake a message to the cavers list from the account "gmiiii@us*.pi*.co*". Apparently he also sent it to techdiver. He claimed to be George Irvine, and that he was resigning as director of WKPP. Cavers is now a moderated list, what that means is the message must have approval before it's sent out. So, his attempt to post it there failed. However, it got through here at Techdiver (is there anyone still subscribed here?). I ignored it, figuring it to be a hoax. I called Tallahasee to confirm (George is diving Wakulla this weekend). They said "George got out of the water at 5:45". At around 6:30pm I received another message from "George". This time it had the header, "Ken, I'm serious, please send this out". After receiving this one I called George at his favorite restaurant in Tally (Lucy Ho's) and bothered him. He told me he got the copy I sent out to someone in Tallahassee of this message, and they were passing it around at dinner laughing about it. He also said, "It's bullshit, you know that". Whoever is claiming to be George Irvine, using the account "gmiiii@us*.pi*.co*" is full of shit. He is not George Irvine, and he hasn't quit as director of WKPP. The past two months both Techdiver and Cavers have been the victim of faked email messages. This is the main reason cavers is now a moderated list. I strongly suspect our culprit who has been faking all of these messages is the same person claiming to be George Irvine and using this address. Ken Sallot Cavers Moderator
