Subject: O2 spikes and weenies
I can see I'm going to have to resubscribe to this list because the
damn web interface seems to miss half the messages..

At any rate, to the person worried about your O2 seperating in a
nitrox mix.

Yes, this is a very important concern. That's why you have to keep
your head down low when on land so you can get the higher
concentration O2 while the Nitrogen sits up top, because the O2 in
the air seperates from the nitrogen. ;-)

The above paragraph is what is known as "sarcasm". It seems to many
people who print out messages from the internet just don't understand
the meaning of the word "sarcasm", and so don't realize people are
making jokes with some of these posts, and as a result they get all
upset by what they read.

Now, back to our message.

Don't worry about it. Yes, you may notice a minor change from when
it's first removed off the whip. My guess is this is because of the
difference in pressure caused by the tank warming up (you know,
Amaton's, whoops for you anal types, Ideal Gas Law) when you do the
air top. If your tanks are filled slowly or by blend it's a moot
point because it's not an issue. And since we all know none of us
would ever fill by partial pressure... Actually, when doing nitrox
fills by partial pressure I'm usually within 0.2% of my target mix. I
figure that's either because of "gauge error", or "sensor error", and
am happy with it.

Once mixed, you can let your nitrox tank sit and you won't have to
worry about it "unmixing".

Trimix is another story (from what I'm told). Nothing can hold
helium forever. So if you have a tank of trimix sitting around for a
month it could lose some of it's original helium and throw the mix
off. At least I'm pretty damn sure it will.

However, since we all analyze our tanks before we dive, it's not an
issue for any of us.

Ken
