There are a wide varity available, however the steels are being phased out in favor of aluminum. It is easy to find E bottles with hydros dating from the 1920s still in service. These bottles tend to be HEAVY carbon-steel, running about 7lbs negative on a 2000 psi/ ~20cf fill. they're rated from 1800-2015psi working pressure. Starting in the mid 40s, CrMo alloys were used to make lighter steel cylinders. These are often rated 2015psi (no-plus after 10 hydros....), and are 5lbs lighter than the carbon steels. Look for the CrMo stamp up by the DOT/CTC markings. Watch out for the O2 pin valves. They're cheap (US$15). They've got the correct thread (1/2 NPT). They're easy to get "transfilled" because they have the kind of valve that fillers at medical type places want to see. They are compatible with surface O2 therapy kits; But, they're mechanical pieces of s$#%. The bad of them is: you need to use an adaptor to go to scuba (or do some machining); the over-pressure relief is a lead "bullet" (though can easily be replaced with a kit built up for 2250 service); no matter how hard you try to keep salt water out of the valve opening, you will end up with the brass threads of the valve spindle covered with verdigris (which is not only tasty, but clogs the regulator's sintered filter and binds badly); you need to be sure you have a good valve handle to turn them on with (as the wrenches, plastic caps, etc that work in the nursing home tend to fall off, break, etc in the water). A real scuba valve is much better. And here's the pitch: I've got 5 or 10 of these tanks O2 clean, hydro-d,(GALVANIZED), with O2pin valves I'd like to sell ($50/ea). private email me if you're interested. _____________________________________________________________.sig Eric Maiken email: eapg243@ea*.oa*.uc*.ed* Dept. of Physics o: 714 824-6621 U of California fax: 714 824 2175 Irvine, CA 92715-4575
