The "techdiver training" thread is pretty scary overall (speaking from a level hopefully above the "Stroke" but by no means a "real" techdiver). It sounds fishy to me. I pushed myself to "recreational" limits of 130 in a couple of months (even that is scary in retrospect) but in the nearly three years since, that hasn't been pushed beyond 170 yet, mainly because I know I'm "impaired" by then by narcosis. If I were doing the quickie 4-day deep-stroke course I could write it off to inexperience, or else convince myself I'm sober enough to keep going, but fact is I'm not comfortable with that. So there. This "intensive" training makes me think of learning to drive a race car at high speed... you get your chance to do it for enough money, but the seat belt is optional (and in this case, if we consider EANx deco or trimix bottom gas as additional safety, they cost you extra too). Diving certifications should be based on common sense and intelligence, and not just dollars. Jeff Kell <jeff@ut*.ut*.ed*>
