> Watts responded by stating, >in substance, that after completing one of his deep air courses (the 300 footer, >specifically), the "student" was not really qualified to conduct his own dives >to that depth. He described how two guides "held the hand" of the student, and >took him down, and back up. The way the "course" was explained, made it seem >more like a guided tour to 300 feet, rather than a training session. > The only relevent question here is: Is this guy killing people (either immediately or more likely, later) or not? Because if he's really turning out four day wonders who think they're qualified to dive to 240 or 300 on air, then either he must be killing some, either that or the rest of us must be seriously overestimating the dangers of deep air(!). On the other hand, if he's just doing a sort of fantasy trip, dressing his customers up like tech divers and whisking them deep and back so they can say they done it, then he's in a pretty wierd biz (kinda in the same league as those deals where they take rich guys to Russia, dress them like fighter pilots, and give them a ride in a MIG) but it doesn't really have a lot to do with diving so we can save our outrage and go on our way. Hey! - great idea for a biz. Get some of those cheap 160' foot depth gauges. Put the 24O'dial faces on them. Print up a batch of diplomas. Find a hole somewhere at least 100' deep..........
