Hi!
In reference to the Suunto BAT warning...
Note that I'm not contradicting Suunto's statments that you should
replace the battery when the BAT warning appears. However, here's some
history on my Solution.
My solution is approx. 2 1/2 years old. After I got it, it worked for
over a year without requiring any (new) batteries. Finally the BAT
warning appeared and I took it into the shop to have new batteries put
into it. They replaced the batteries. The next day I was teaching a
class in the pool and the BAT warning came on. I finished that day in
the pool and had them change the batteries again. The next weekend the
BAT warning came on again, this time in the ocean. Once again it went in
for battery replacement. Once again, the next time it was immersed it
complained about batteries. Curiousity got the better of me and I've not
changed the batteries since. That was 3 months ago and it's still working fine.
Note, though, that I _fully_expect_ that it will die in he middle of a
dive at any time. For the most part, I use my Solution as an expensive
depth gauge/bottom timer/profiler/log book and I plan _ALL_ my dives on
the dive tables, so having the computer die on my is no big deal (I have
backups with me at all times - do you?)

It is hard to disagree with a pro-survival decision,
It is even harder to engage in prolonged arguments
with someone who consistently makes anti-survival decisions.
