Actually Joe, your comparrison of Mars and cave exploration is not wide of the mark. Many discoveries, now taking place in the cave environment, are of great interest to Nasa, biologists, and geologists. Mars resembles the cave environment in many ways. Microbial life, discovered in caves, many serve as an example of possible life (or fossil life) on Mars. Both the cave environment and Mars represent extreme environments, which were thought inhospitable to life. George, JJ, and company represent the new explorers. The age of exploration is as alive today, as it was in the Lewis and Clark era. Exploration takes place in the extreme environments and the classroom. Still there if you want it.
