Your story gets even scarier... I think I know who this guy is and he is also an NACD Instructor. I watched him give a pre-dive briefing to a class at Madison one time. They were standing in shallow water in full gear while he was lecturing and smoking at the same time. When he finished he flicked the butt into the water (in front of his students) and started the dive. That shows a LOT of respect for the environment and really takes a lot of class.
