NO, NO, NO -- none of the above

I think that this question not given it's true justice by confining =
itself to this forum.

Most people in this world know nothing about cave diving. They =
generally believe it is a dangerous activity, but can have no =
appreciation of what is involved without going through a cave class =
themselves. Even so, it would certainly have to be a general consensus =
to anyone who was thinking at all to agree that someone who has had a =
heart attack, is obese (obvious predisposer to heart attacks), or has=20
had a stroke to be a cave instructor.

My father is by no stretch of the imagination obese or even fat, but he =
has had a heart attack. He knows nothing about cave diving, like most =
of the population of the world. The only thing that keeps him able to =
deal with the fact that I do it is the comfort of knowing that the =
people I am diving with are well beyond just having "an instructor =
certification card". After his heart attack he closely monitors his =
diet to avoid high-cholesterol foods and such, went on a strict exercise =
regimen, quit smoking immediately, and STILL had two other smaller heart =
attacks WELL AFTER being on the completely right track for years. He is =
constantly avoiding stressful situations of all kinds, is disciplined =
and aware, and is still at risk of a repeat.

Having had a heart attack he would definitely never tolerate me cave =
diving with someone who has had a heart attack, is obese or has had a =
stroke. Anyone who would is crazy. I can't follow the logic. Um let's =
see: "These people are walking time bombs, let's put them completely in =
charge of other peoples lives in a potentially extremely physically, =
psychologically, and emotionally stressful situation. Sure, they could =
have another heart attack at any minute but, they have been "cleared" =
so_ sign_me_up ???"
what ?

Mike, you should ask anyone and everyone this question. =20
Nobody can argue the obvious and not look like a fool.

I have a simple question for "all" the members of this list. Would =
you, or would you not let someone who is obese, had a heart attack =
and/or stroke take a child or loved one of yours into a cave for =
instruction? All that is needed in your reply is a "yes" or "no". Please =
feel free however to make any other comments for or against that you =
wish too.
