Sall RIde was a very well qualified shuttle mission specialist who earned
her way into the program. "Trey" must have meant Christa McCaulif (sp?) who
was the teacher that blew up on the Challenger. That was definetly a
publicity stunt. "Trey's" joke makes sense if he meant Christa.

FYI here is a short paragraph on Sally Ride:

Sally Ride: Third Woman in Space

                    June 18, 1983

                    ENCINO, CALIFORNIA

The United States has had many "firsts" in space, but getting the first
woman into orbit isn't one of them. Sally Ride, the first American woman in
space, went into orbit on June 18, 1983, 20 years after the Soviet Union's
Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space and less than one year
after the Soviet Union's Svetlana Savitskaya became the second.

Ride, a 32-year-old physicist from Encino, California, however, opened the
door for American women to participate in space exploration, and several
have been in orbit since her first journey.

Ride, an expert in working the space shuttle's robot arm, was in charge of
deploying and retrieving the SPAS-1 satellite, a task she successfully
performed. It was the first time the robot arm had been used.

Following the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, Ride served on the
presidential commission that investigated the disaster.
