Kevin, I hope you do not DIVE like you read....... The email I sent previously was basically what you worded in your email. Email is only text in the body and subject unless an attachment is included. And as far a hole or security bug being in the email client program this still does not provide for a viri file to infect a client, it may provide for resources to be maximized through buffer overflows. For every bug or hole you think you might be able to name in MS Outlook or Outlook Express I can name one in any other email client program as well. (Including my email client, which is the Sendmail Program on any Unix platform) Considering my background I would say that I have knowledge in Email, (I am currently the Internet Postmaster, and provide Network Security services at a company that provides email for 14000 users), I have also created three viruses for testing purposes for Symantec. I do agree with your Darwin statement, but I also believe in what I was told as a child, UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU READ BEFORE YOU INSERT YOUR FOOT IN YOUR MOUTH. Actually, you are both wrong. The problem here is that the email virus email is a hoax. Reading an email will not infect a system, except in some extreme situations where there is a security hole (bug) in the email client. I believe viruses encoded in emails is simply another example of darwin's principles at work. Anyone STUPID enough to open an attachment from someone they don't know deserves the virus. Similarly, anyone LAME enough to be using microsoft outlook for an email client deserves whatever that brings. (Usually just system crashes and lack of resources, but the occasional virus, too) At 03:34 PM 4/22/1999 -0400, you wrote: >This is not entirely accurate as viruses can be caused by several different >file types, not only executables.
