Is it the usual "family affair" again? -----Original Message----- From: Frank Lavallee [mailto:lavalle7@gt*.ne*] Sent: Tuesday, April 20, 1999 11:53 AM To: Cavers Forum Subject: Arch Sink And Ward Sink Both Closed A few weeks ago, Arch Sink, a small cave system which is located in northwest Pasco county, Florida was closed to diving. The property surrounding it is up for sale and the current owner(s) apparently do not want any diving activities going on during this time. Whether it will be reopened to diving in the future is hard to say right now. Even more recently, Ward Sink, a deep sinkhole with no cave system, which is located about 3 miles south of Arch Sink, was closed to diving. I have heard a rumor as to why it closed, but since I have not confirmed it, I decline to comment on it. I have dived both sites frequently since 1988 and have surveyed and mapped both of them. The loss of these sites, should it be permanent, will be a personal loss to me. A 4-page article on Ward Sink appeared in the most recent issue of "Skin Diver" magazine in the "Southern Diver" insert on page 46. Unfortunately, anyone who has thoughts of diving it in the near future are in for a disappointment.
