Subject: Re: G-250 rebuild
Michael,

One of the reasons for Scubapro's parts policy is to protect their
warranty. Scubapro is one of the only companies that still offers a
limited lifetime warranty on all their regulators. What this means is that
ALL parts are FREE to the original purchaser as long as the regulator is
serviced annually. The cost of annual service is usually close to the cost
of the parts for a 1st and 2nd stage alone. In our shop this equates to
$39.95 for a first and second stage. Retail parts cost for a Mk20/G250 is
$34.00. If parts were sold over the counter then there would be no control
over the quality of workmanship that went into the rebuild. No control
means that every bloated head, "I CAN DO IT BETTER THEN ANYONE ELSE", no
knowledge, no update bulletins, farm animal stupid diver could screw up
their reg. and then have the dealer fix it for free.

Just yesterday I had to work on a regulator that not only didn't work
right, but had the parts from god knows what reg. in it. The owner, or
someone else, attempted to compensate for it by bending the lever assembly
up. I've seen seats that can not be flipped over still used this way.
I've seen screw up piston knief edges that look like somone used a screw
driver to push it out. I've seen piston springs beat to death in order to
lower IP but shims were in place and, the real cause was the wrong HP seat.
 Get the idea?

If you insist on working on your own regulators, then talk (NICELY) to your
dealer and see if he needs a backup repair technician. All he needs to do
is send you to a Scubapro repair clinic. You would then be able to
purchase parts from your dealer, and help him out on repairs in the shop.
This would not allow you to do work outside the shop for others however.
Technicians are not freelance. They must be tied to a specific shop so
they can receive current bulletins on changes, warnings, and technics. The
objective is to keep technicians updated.

I know there are still some bad technicians out there, but this is better
then allowing anyone to buy parts and call them selves a tech.

Good luck. - JT
