You are quite correct in concluding that you have stepped into the middle of a controversy. However, I believe that it would be a disservice to a group that has done some incredible work if you allow a misunderstanding (if indeed this is a misunderstanding and not a ploy) to prevent giving credit where it is due. You should know that over the last couple of years the WKPP and some of its members have been subjected to numerous attacks which have included anonymous and faked emails to employers, sponsors, and public forums. In addition to an email smear campaign, there have been articles published that could be interpreted as giving credit for WKPP accomplishments to competing groups. With this history I assume you can understand why there is a tendency to be somewhat defensive. If you have any doubts about the magnitude of the work done by the WKPP, do a little research on diving records in the last few years and compare them to the dives done in the last year by the WKPP. If you are truly an author you should have no trouble locating this information and the numbers should prove interesting.
