Kevin, I am a "artifact hound" and agree. I do most of my "open water"
dives in the chesapeake bay. (I do more caving  than ow)It's dirty, nasty
low viz in 8 + years I've talked a few into a dive only for them to come
up and say "if that's bay diving, you can have it" 

I know there is a balance, the next diver wants to see something. I still
remember a clammer that was frequented by our local divers in the
atlantic. One storm and alll that was left was the engine and a couple of
clam baskets.
