Bob, A leader can take on many forms. We in the scuba training business take
the term leader to be one who does it right, encourages others to do the same;
this is what its supposed to be in the dangerous activities we do. However,
Harvey was not a leader in that way. Harvey was a phyically small man with
dreams, he was a characher, a bon vivant, a story teller, and a catalyst.
Harvey had the inate ability with just a few words to make someone smile. He
could also get someone excited about diving. He had been doing that for well
over 40 years. Struggle in the business, of course, we all do from tiem to
time, thats part of business.

I would hazard that Harvey had some influence in some way good or bad, right
or wrong, on just about every diver who ever came out of the tri-state area.
There is not a place where I have travelled to where someone who knew I came
from Brooklyn and was a diver asked "Hey do you know that Crazy guy Harvey?"

Most people just enjoyed him, and I am sure even with all the troubles that he
had over
his lifetime, old and new he was always a happy guy when he was diving. That
is what made Harvey a leader. He lead with spirit and adventure.
