The following paragraphs were forwared to me from a fellow diver. I know this isn't diving related, but it does affect all of us on the internet. This is getting to be a yearly problem. I remember sending e-mail to the FCC last year for the exact same thing. Subject: FCC Proposal Important FCC Notice - Not A Joke! Date: Wed, 7 Jan 1998 16:57:39 -0500 DATED MATERIAL--PLEASE ACT UPON ASAP (responses need to be received by February 13, 1998) Local telephone companies have filed a proposal with the FCC to impose per minute charges for your internet service. They contend that your usage has or will hinder the operation of the telephone network. In my opinion, e-mail usage will diminish if users are required to pay additional per minute charges. EVERY PHONE COMPANY is in on this one, and they are trying to sneak it in just under the wire for litigation! This is really important! If we have to pay for e-mail, the cost will skyrocket. Right now it's about the only really cost-effective means of communication. The FCC has created an e-mail box for your comments, and your responses must be received by February 13, 1998! Please let everyone you know hear about this one. Send your thoughts, opinions, and comments via e-mail to: isp@fc*.go* Don't procrastinate! DO IT NOW!!! -- NHL1@vi*.ne* * / \/ \ * If you don't experience new things, \6/\6/ * how can you expect to grow? (())**
