Subject: Northern Shipwrecks Database on CD-ROM

Folks,

I am an avid wreck researcher. Formally a very active diver (100+ dives
per year), I now find my time occupied by researching wrecks through a
variety of documents including microfilms of old newspapers, Port
Registry records, and hundreds of other sources.

I am interested in hearing of other researchers from various areas of
North America and the West Indies.

If you require further details, check my web site listed below.

My research has resulted in the NORTHERN SHIPWRECKS DATABASE featuring
over 65,000 records on CD-ROM. While this system previously concentrated
on the area of North America above the 40th degree north latitude (plus
associated losses in foreign waters), it is now being expanded to
encompass the entire continent plus the West Indies.

This system can be searched by a choice of 12 options:

  1. Date of loss	5. Area of loss 9. Place built
  2. Name of vessel	6. Detailed area of loss	10. Builder(s)
  3. Official number	7. Latitude-Longitude grid	11. Owner(s)
  4. Region of loss	8. Port of Registry 12. Captain
   (Each record lists references used)

Searches produce a `Summary Screen' of 15 records that can be scrolled up
and down, from which `Full Screen' records can be selected. Each record
contains up to 15 references ranging from contemporary publications to old
documents dating back to the 1700's (including old newspapers, port of
registry records, private and Government documents, etc).

A supplementary database provides a list of references, regions,
abbreviations plus museums and other sources of information.

This free-standing system operates on PC's (using DOS 6.2; Windows 3.x;
or Windows'95), or MAC's using a DOS Card or the Soft Windows program.

If you are interested in receiving more information on the `Northern
Shipwrecks Database' on CD-ROM, including a flow chart of screens, price
and order form, please forward your mailing address.

Yours,
Dave Barron
