Certain aspects of hogarthian "streamlining" obviously will reduce drag, such as the close-in style of carrying stages, versus carrying them nearly at right angles to the body as seen in many photos of "tech" divers. Other hogarthian practices, such as hose placement, only "streamline" in the sense of reducing the danger of snagging etc. The hydrodynamic drag of a few reg/gauge/inflator hoses in _whatever_ configuration is going to be negligible compared to the drag of the diver and bottles. Yes, streamlining and simplifying are good, tending to increase one's efficiency, but use your head not dogma to decide how to rig your gear. That said, I have to say that my rig has evolved into a pseudo-hogarthian configuration - backplate, small wings, hoses tucked in close to the rig, secondary on a short hose hung around my neck, primary on the long hose. I do NOT route my hoses exactly as dictated by WKPP - I route them cleanly in a manner that WORKS with my regulators and manifold. My harness is NOT a single piece of webbing - I have a fastex buckle (riveted not sewn) on the left shoulder strap. Sure, its a potential failure point, but I feel the risk of it failing is worth the ease of exiting the rig in rough water in the style of small-boat diving we do. Other details vary, but always with a reason. It is rigged for function, not conformity. Dan ========================================================= Daniel R. That is how I took it. : :'Scuse me, but are you "streamlining" yourself to go through the water :faster -- or for SNAG PREVENTION? Richard, BOTH! You actualy will be faster in the water when streamlined. Due to the streamlining you will have less resistance as you swim in the water. Current will have less of an effect upon you. You will have more endurance due to less resistance. You will be overall more "efficient". Every little thing counts when you are down there, and a value decision needs to be reached on the true benefits of all drag producing gear pieces. I guess you never payed attention in Hogarth 101. -Charles +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Please send messages for the WreckDiver list to: wreckdiver@wreckdiver.com Send subscription and help requests to: wreckdiver-request@wreckdiver.com +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Please send messages for the WreckDiver list to: wreckdiver@wreckdiver.com Send subscription and help requests to: wreckdiver-request@wreckdiver.com +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
