George, we disagree. I will admit that I was wrong suggesting (if I did) that people shouldn't use lines. I just don't like to myself, for my own reasons. But on issues like independants I am convinced that they can (and are right now) used as safely as manifolds. They do require different monitoring skills, but they are not difficult nor prone to failure. If someone feels they would like to bring a snorkel along, or anything else for that matter, so what? They shouldn't wear it on their heads but that doesn't mean it can't be safely stowed out of the way. Next I'll be told my tool bag is not hogarth and it will be suggested I leave it on the boat. And what is the proper way to carry a sledgehammer and crow bar? Hogarthian spear gun, anyone? Do you stow your bug bag under your long hose? What about once you have 2 or 3 4 pound lobsters (real ones, with claws), then how do you hogarthian stow that? You got those bugs in the wreck, yes the bag is going to catch on damn near everything you come near, do you not bring it? Do you go home without dinner? Or do you find a way to deal with it? What if I decide to finish off a porthole, dig for some silverware, grab a couple of lobsters and shoot some blackfish on the way back to the anchor line, how can I do that YOUR WAY? Don't tell me I can't, I often do - successfully. I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them George I am. I will not eat them on a boat, nor in a cave on a rope. I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them George I am. (I just read that, progressive, aren't I) Mark Too smart to die, Too dumb to know it. But quite happy ---------- From: gmiiii To: Mark Welzel Cc: techdiver; wreckdiver Subject: Re: My Monkee (Not quite . . .) Date: Thursday, January 16, 1997 4:16AM Mark, I am not on these lists. To respond to what you said, I have to call your attention ot the fact that you are promoting the same things today that you were a year ago, so I realy do not think you have any intention of learning. Back then you were teling us how bad gas diving is, are we still on that bandwagon? I also would like to point out to you and everyone else that doing it right from the start is a lot better than learning the hard way, and I wish I had had somebody to point me in the right direction initially - this would have saved me some big money. Otherise I got lucky - the people you are recommending dagerous things and useles sgear to may not be so lucky. From where I sit, most of what I see on here or cavers is the result of ignorance, and I do not see any of the die hards changing, but I do see the new people coming along properly, and that is what we want - you guys do it wrong and make asses of yourselves, new guys do it right and the sprot is safer. I notice that the tally from up there and down here is starting to drop, and that all of the accidents are now obvious strokery -looks like not only my ideas but my way of transmitting them works +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Please send messages for the WreckDiver list to: wreckdiver@wreckdiver.com Send subscription and help requests to: wreckdiver-request@wreckdiver.com +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
