I think Ballard is like a biologist studying a pond from a hill top. If you want to really explore something, you have to *go* there. And spend lots of time exploring. Maybe there was a phone call from the british navy that scared him off? You can do your show, just don't find anything. Maybe a british ship/mine/sub sank it. Remember Breaker Morant and Lord Kitchener from the Beor war. Things the british military would silence if they could. A real research operation would be Divers, support ship, ROV's where needed, 3-6 months of time, ect. Everything would be documented and explored. In Ballards show, he put in a few days at the most. That navy sub was not a "research sub", but a special operations/deep diving/recovery/long endurance sub. "altruistically marketed hypocrisy" is a perfect description of that sub. The only thing the military researches is death and oppression.
