O.K, all you technical diving dudes - here is a question that I have, which is something I'm sure some of you will have the answer to. My question is thus: Suppose I'm going to do a dive to about 200-230fsw. I'm using a CCR-155, so my O2 is maintained at my preset PPO2 level - so far no problem - but now suppose that I am going to be diving with a full face mask (with rebreather block) and comm. gear (lets say, OTS SSB-2001's). I'm speaking to my cameraman, who has a modified SSB-2000 that has an output from his comm to the audio input on his video camera, so my every precious word is recorded for posterity. Now, I'm at 200-230, as I said. I don't want to be narced out of my mind, so I use a different gas as my diluent. First choice (obviously) is Helium. But here is the problem: Now, when I speak to my cameraman (who, by the way, I've convinced to breathe pure O2, since he pisses me off), I sound like donald duck, instead of Charleton Heston (I've got Heeeelium voice). Now, if I use a different "noble" gas (such as Neon) as my diluent, how would this affect my voice? Would it sound deeper than normal, or close to that of Helium? This is a serious question, even though I've framed it in a humorous light, and any good advice or information on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks. Kevin HeyyDude@AO*.co*
