Subject: Re: Hogarth/DR twist lights
My original point was not to enter into a mathematical assessment of the
failure rates of DR lights. It would appear by using the word "rate" I
changed my intended meaning. I only meant to say that if Mr. Mount is
basing his opinion on only successful dives, and not failures. He is
recommending a light that may not be the best available. The number that
I have seen fail - and I owned one for over a year- are too "numeris" to
mention. Most of the time you could either shake the light, or screw and
unscrew the unit until it would activate. When diving in sea water, it
required maintenance above and beyond rinsing off with fresh water. I am
speaking of the twist actuator handle.
I have talked with many who experienced the same problem's. There was a
lengthy thread earlier this year on techdiver about this same problem.
Maybe it's only a small problem, but it's a problem that can be
eradicated by not using the twist on/off handle. As for the actual
rate. I have no #@^%ing idea. Too high a rate to be in a cave. IMO. OK?
