Well, I guess our opinions just differ on this. > A yahoo, by my definition is someone who is going to go do > ignoring the wealth of experience that is available to him. After reading > the article, would you dive that deep? I certainly wouldn't. But I know that others would. My understanding (albeit unsupported) is that, after word spread of said deep dive, there were a number of individuals who called TDI asking if they could also learn how to dive that deep on air. Those sorts of people are the ones that epitomize my definition of "yahoo" -- the ones who want to dive deep on air for the sake of diving deep on air. Some people just think it's cool, I guess. I don't loose any sleep over it, though; for two reasons: 1) I'm an evolutionary biologist, so I understand the effectiveness of natural selection. 2) Most of the deep diving I do is entirely unaffected by the number of people who inadvertently kill themselves diving. I only get concerned when someone who I consider to be a friend dives too close (or beyond) his or her limitations. I know of no such people who meet this description (Although I have many diving friends, and I know many divers who exceed their limitations, there is, at this time, no overlap between the two groups of people). Aloha, Rich
