Whoa! I have to ask where you shop George.  If you *made* your
backplates I guess this would be true, but Dive Rite charges what
they charge for wings, they don't care if you put them on a transpac or
a backplate.  When I checked their backplate prices, they
weren't cheap either.  Two sets of wings would just about
cover the cost of the softpac by themselves.

Oh, would that all of us got discounts from dealers, or had the
sense to buy our gear back when dinosaurs roamed the earth ;).
