I see a lot of discussion on here of "technical" bc's. These
things are
designed to attract the attention of nouveau gear junkies who have
not yet
learned the ropes. They are exptremely expensive - you can buy two
complete
sets of backplate with properly rigged harness, and two sets of wings
for the
same money. The "technicals" are cluttered, and restrict your ability
to adjust
them to your needs. It is almost impossible to sidemount a light with
one of
these contraptions. They restrict you ability to use a proper scooter
strap.
They have so many parts, pieces, rings, clips , snaps , cumberbuns,
straps,
and other loose and dangling nonsense that they are an aoutomaitc "no
no " for
any serious diving. My friends who are cave diving instructors (the
ones that
don't double as gear salemen) tell me that people show up for courses
with
this stuff and it makes it impossible to teach them properly.
I realize that some of you may have duped yourselves, or been
duped into
buying thsis nonsense. However, in my business, when you buy the
wrong thing
they have a saying that goes, "cut your losses". Don't try to build
your rig
around the wrong foundation. Ask yourself this question, "why is it
that the
guys doing the most extreme technical diving do not use any of this
stuff?".
