Subject: nitrox use

ddoolett wrote from Australia asking about Nitrox use in the US. I perhaps
have a different perspective since my nitrox education is very recent, so I
have a taste of how the sport diving masses are being presented with nitrox.
The recreational divers on the boats I have seen consider 70 -80' to be deep,
and rarely exceed that. At those depths, there is little risk of an O2 hit.
Some divers merely calculate their max allowable depth, and then use nitrox
with standard air tables or computers, just for a larger safety margin against
DCS.
Others do use it for the extended no-decompression time.
None of these divers ever dive past their no-deco limits, at least not
intentionally.
