When my UKAqua Sun self destructed on the Doria after 4 seasons last year I decided to get a new light. The Aquasun while a great and powerful light had 2 drawbacks. It could turn on in your gear bag melting parts of itself, and the plastic housing tended to thread incorrectly after repeated use. (probably my error but still a problem). But I did enjoy over 300 Atlantic Ocean wreck dives with it. So I searched around, being one of those strange people that tries to keep the amount of baggage strapped to my tanks at a minimum I did not wish too get one of the battery/cord/wand lights that have flooded the market like a bunch of cheap hookers on 42nd St. I found that Beuchat has a new product out. The Buechat 100. It is smaller than the large Aquasun. It is all metal with a real glass lens. It has a burn time of approx. 30 minutes. If you install a 50 watt bulb it extends to 60 minutes. The 100 watt bulb is an extremely bright light. All season I had owners of Diverite and American lighting, coming up to me and asking about the light after having seen me with it underwater. It has an external charging plug in it so you do not have to dissamble the light. The only problems I had this year were the charger bunt up after 6 charges. Buechat promptly replaced the charger. Also the handle had no place to attach a metal ring for a spliced rope lanyard as us wreckers prefer. I had to improvise with hose clamps and plastic ties. Other than that I had a good season with it. It was reliable and sturdy. And it survived 4 dives on the Andrea Doria. I still use a UK800R for a backup( 35 watts) and recommend it highly This light is obviously for wreck divers only because of the burn time. I hope no one was offended by my discussing a diving subject on this server??
