However, rather than address the issues, the company reportedly went after the list maintainer (Ken Sallot, ken@co*.ci*.uf*.ed*). While I do not believe DiveRite took legal action, they apparently did play a pivotal role in having the cave diving list shutdown. Needless to say, this is a great loss for the diving community, especially the cave diving community. We can only hope that our other primary discussion arena (techdiver) does not suffer a similar fate -- already, though, two other vendors (namely Abysmal Diving Inc., and American Nitrox Divers Inc.) have separately posted threats of "legal or other action" in response to discussions of safety issues with their respective products. Censorship is (unfortunately) alive, and well, and living on the 'net. -frank DISCLAIMER: While I am a subscriber to techdiver (and I was a subscriber to cavers), I have not had any direct involvement with the DiveRite issue; my knowledge of the interaction between DiveRite and Ken is strictly second hand. -- fhd@in*.ne* | The law punishes the thief who steals the goose from the 1 212 559 5534 | commons, but the greater thief the law lets loose, who 1 917 992 2248 | steals the commons from the goose. 1 718 746 7061 | -- 16C English proverb
