Dennis,
Just to confirm that we are talking about the same product...I'm refering to
Skyblasters, which is an orange cylinder about 3 inches long, with a plastic
cap. Removing the cap reveals a little chain trigger. The flare shoots out of
the other side of the tube, which is sealed with some type of silicone-looking
plug.
Thanks for the info.

. Flares would be a great thing to carry, or smoke bombs. "SKYBLASTER" makes
water proof

the mini flares you have mentioned are quite water proof and pressure proof.
we carry two each on every dive. i have dived two past 300 feet on two dives
and then to 358 on the third dive (not the same day :-)).. these were one
week apart and the flares stayed in my bcd pocket the whole time.. both
fired when tested. we have used about forty of these over the last year
and had only one dud, and it actually worked just didn't go as high when
we tested it. we started fireing them after every dive to be safe but have
gone to every third dive now... we have a few that we are keeping to see
just how far they will go before compromising.
why two? the first one we shoot straight up, if the boat captain misses
that one we fire the second on right <<at>> him !!
aloha,
dp
