Why am I one of the only ones who >sees the value of being able to get out of a rig quickly underwater? That is because some people have such tunnel vision that they don't understand risk/value tradeoffs. There is a slight risk that the fastener will fail. The highest risk is on land where the loads are much greater than when in the water. I personally dive with a shoulder release on my 2x121's. I have had one "failure", on land when I stood up, because I failed to properly seat the fastener. Guess what happened. The kit shifted just a little while I took the majority of the weight on the other strap. I have tried intentionally unfastening the shoulder underwater. The result is that everything is a bit looser than I like, but it still stayed in place. On the other hand, I guarantee that I can get out of my gear easier, quicker, and in tighter quarters because I have the release. For me the decision is easy. I put the failure in the same class with the failed fin strap. (I have spares in the trailer.) But then you and I agree on some other things, so in the eyes of some, our opinions, observations, and analysis are to be ignored. ---- Richard Wackerbarth rkw@da*.ne*
