All right, I've donned my flameproof wetsuit and I'm prepared to jump in to
this list. I've noticed that most of the discussion on this list is about
deep diving, gas mixtures, and caves. Just what is the general opinion of
what makes a dive a technical dive?

I rarely dive deep (exception:I once went to 154 feet to retrieve a video
camera that was dropped), but I also rarely dive in conditions that the
average sport diver encounters. Most of my dives are shallow (30 - 60 feet),
in heavy current, with low viz (I consider 3 feet to be exceptionally good).
In addition to this I dive in water from 45 degrees F to 82 degrees F. I
spend a lot of my dives trying to bring up large objects found on the river
bottom, such as old anchors or lead pigs weighing as much as several hundred
pounds. I also spend a fair amount of time diving on shipwrecks off the
South Carolina coast, there are numerous old blockade runners along our
shores and it is rare when the diving is in what anyone could call good
conditions(14 feet deep, strong current 2 feet of visibility is the norm).
Penetration of these old ships(when there is enough left to penetrate is
challenging to say the least. Is this considered techdiving by the members
of this list? If not does anyone know of an appropriate list for discussing
the issues of low viz, low temp, artifact recovery, etc.
