   The trouble with that, is that as soon as a "mainstream" agency starts
promoting solo diving "as something for truly experienced divers", there
will allways be some bozo who will think he's advanced enough to solo dive.
Trouble is, his last dive will most probably be solo, too.

   However, yes, in some cases, I'm sure solo diving could be safer. I would
tend to think that a lone tethered diver with a dual independent air supply
is far safer under ice than with a (also thethered) buddy (I am drawing on
my own experience - the most "advanced"/"exotic" diving I've done is ice
diving, both tethered and untethered - before flaming, ask for specifics first).
