Spare Air for solo diving? Spare me the effort of dealing with it.
I call it "Spare Puff". Its only good use is in shallow diving backup
and as a way to get an idiot out-of-air diver a safe distance away from you.
Of course, you might be able to convert it to an argon bottle. I haven't
looked at the threads.

Regarding Tom's questions, why 160 for Trimix? Why not 135 or 150? If you
really must see how someone can handle the 160 END, then have that as part of
your trimix class, not advanced or deep air! BTW, the manuals I read for the
tech nitrox were almost useless. The shop instructor and his students were
complaining about them being really lacking.

My personal limits are 180 on air. Mix just cramps my budget right now-I just
bought a house for the first time. A fridge and the like are more important
now.

I have personnally had friends and associates tell me that the longer they dive
and the more close calls they have and others don't have (read dead), that they
start diving gas shallower and shallower. As I have developed ways of dealing
with the narcosis much as Tom mentioned (w/o thinking you're narced) and then
saw a caver/instructor/dive partner get messed up when setting an up line at
~160 ft on air, I've started to change my mind on deep air. BTW, we were both
supposed to be completely self reliant, you know, just diving in close prox-
imity and all that. He was whining about me not being right there to help him
out. He admitted that he was narced and didn't handle it well--said he could
not see my light, even though I could see his every time I glanced upas I
circled under him...can you say the right MIX or you wanna see the boogie man?

One mix instructor took an O2/CO2 tox hit after chasing a student down to 150
or so. Lucky to be alive and he breaths more mix now but still takes money for
ANDI nitrox cards deep before mix classes. Got to keep those $ coming!

Tom, you asked, I think you need to drop the three level Nitrox and Deep air
structure. It is blatant money sucking. One nitrox class and one deep diving
gear usage class is all you need to understand nitrox and handling stage/deco
bottles. Then why not mix after that? Get some visual aids and gear rigging
illustrations in you manuals. They are simply too long on funky arrows and
unexplained statements.

Thats all for now, satisfied Stroke Slammer?
