Rod, There have been studies of the attempted use of naloxone (Narcan) in speeding up the recovery from inhalation anesthetics, and they have essentially shown no effect (unless narcotics were used during the procedure, or as a pre-operative medication). Most studies of the action of inhalation anesthetics have shown no binding with any of the known narcotic receptors, so this is not unexpected. However, it appears that the mechanism of action of IGN is probably the same as that seen with the inhalation agents, so conclusions drawn from studies involving inhalation anesthetics are probably applicable to IGN.
