As George pointed out J.J. and I were in court to help with an injunction(sp?) to stop a Wakulla County Developer from putting a gas station across the street from Wakulla Springs. Data collected and video taken by the WKPP divers under the property owned by Ken Kirtin(developer) was used to help show that it was a really BAD place for another gas station. The proceidings reminded me of my dog Sookie chasing his tail in circles. With lawyers doing "their thing" no wonder the courts take so long. Kirtin surved subpoenas on a lot of people who opposed him on the rezoning, including our on George. He had no intention of calling them as a witness, only to make them show up and sit there all day. The highlight of the day came around 7pm when the judge called Kirtin's bluff and pointed out that he believed Kirtin missused the subpoena power just to piss-off these people. The tounge-lashing the judge give Kirtin for doing this made all the boring lawyer stuff worth sitting through. Kirtin also undermined his own case by pulling such a stunt and I am happy to say that the missuse of such power will not go unpunished. The judge is going to take his time in deciding such an important case and did not make a decission tonight, but would concider all the information carfully and decide in a week. I hope that all the work the WKPP has done helps the State win this case. It would be very rewarding to all us involved in the project, aand to the cave diving community that the diving we do and the data we collect can be used in a positive way to help protect OUR ground water resources.
