Subject: Re: Back Plates (Plastic or Stainless)

One manufacturer has offered to replace any broken
ABS backplates. I told them to send the replacement to
my family. No thanks, metal is the way, and with OMS tanks,
you will ned the extra weight of the plate they make. I would
suggest buying the same tanks made by Pressed Steel, which,
like the 104's have the correct buoyancy in the first place,
but the OMS 121, 108 and 95 make great deco bottles for
cave diving for the 02 and 50/50 on real long dives. Otherwise,
mold a 9 pound weight to go under the backplate and between
the tanks to compensate. If you use a shell suit, this is adequate,
if you use neopreme with the correct insulation, you will need
another nine pounds someplace. - George
