A. CARDIOVASCULAR EFFECTS
1. Rare reports of severe cardiovascular effects have
occurred with terfenadine; the effects have also been
reported with first and other second generation
antihistamines. Reactions include QT INTERVAL
PROLONGATION, VENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA, TORSADE DE
POINTES, VENTRICULAR FIBRILLATION, DEATH, CARDIAC
ARREST, HYPOTENSION, PALPITATIONS, and SYNCOPE.
Persons with impaired liver function or those receiving
ketoconazole, itraconazole, troleandomycin, or
erythromycin are at increased risk for developing
cardiovascular effects at recommended doses of
terfenadine. Cardiovascular effects are also more
likely in overdose situations (Prod Info Seldane(R),
1992; Prod Info Sporanox(R), 1992; Anon, 1992).
