Subject: Beuchat Maestro Pro followup part II
For those of you who caught the 1st installment, here's the conclusion
of the saga, which I feel obligated to post so as to clear up any suspected
wrong doing on the part of the vendor or manufacturer.

On 9/30 I returned to the scene of my labor day dive test with the Beuchat
Aladin Maestro Pro mixed gas computer. For those who missed the first part,
this is the computer manufactured by Cochran industries and also sold as
the Nemisis II Nitrox.

The computer had been returned to Beuchat in Ft. Lauderdale FL. at the request
of their service department, who contacted me directly by phone within days
of the original incident. I was promissed a replacement unit by 9/18 and
it was delivered slightly ahead of schedule. Dry land testing revealed
that both the TU and WU were in working order. I was told that the problem
with the original WU had been traced to a detached antenna, and that
Beuchat suspected damage during shipment due to rough handling.

I installed the TU on the second (right side) HP port of my Scubapro
Mk15 regulator, leak tested it in my rinse tank (garbage can), and proceeded
to Monterey Ca. on the morning of the 30th at an ungodly hour.

I did 2 dives with the unit, air to 100 feet and air to 60 feet. Dives
were seperated by a 1 hr surface interval.

The computer performed flawlessly on both dives. The transmission range
problem was solved by installing the TU over my left shoulder and clipping
it to my BC inflator hose. Because I'm conditioned to reach for my gauges
with my left hand, I had to double back on the wire that connects the
pressure sensor to the computer on the TU, placing an unreasonable amount
of stress on the TU connection. I've decided to bite the bullet and move
my gauges to the right side HP port so as to take the stress off the TU
cable, but I would prefer a longer cable on the TU. Other than that,
I have no complaints.

For anyone who cares, I have no financial interests in Beuchat or Cochran.
All of this was witnessed, and those witnesses are reading this account :).

Scott.
