I am a former ANDI Instructor. As my memory recalls, during my ANDI Instructor course (1990) the ANDI standards said that the nitrox students were required to complete two dives using nitrox. The instructor had to be on site, not in the water. The instructors role was to oversee the students analyze their cylinders, and then complete the exam on the boat either duruing the surface interval or afterwoods, answer questions, etc.. At no time was the instructor required to enter the water with the students, the premise being that they were already certified divers. I have mixed feelings about this myself, but the fact is they are already certified divers, and if the diving conditions physcally prevent a nitrox student from exceeding the agencys reccomended PO2, why should an instructor be in the water???? I'd like to hear from everyone, including ANDI. So tell us Stewart at ANDI Headquaters, what is the current standard and why? Raimo.
