Subject: Why a J valve is a J valve
From: Don Dapkus ddii

Subj: Why a J valve is a J valve

Simon,

The story I was told by the old LA County Instructors Association (I'm #4104!)
is that in the 195x US Divers catalog, the reserve valve was picture J in the
catalog, while (whilst for our non-American friends) the non-reserve valve was
picture K. It's stuck since then. Pretty amazing, isn't it?

Cheers!

Hi Marc,

This may not be at all relevant but I recently had to retire a J valve on
my old steel 72 because the shop servicing it refused to fill the tank with

......

As an aside I can't remember why they're called j valves, there more of a
"t" shape.
